Why is it when you decide to decorate that the old colour scheme suddenly looks absolutely abysmal?

This picture is of the dining room part done. The ceiling and woodwork have been freshly painted. The two shades of green will soon be replaced by a smashing new wallpaper, a sample of which is sellotape up for you to view.

Now, where is that packet of paste and my plumb line?
