Day 32 – 365 / February 1st 2015

You may recall the art installation “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” that was on display to such dramatic and poignant effect last year at the Tower of London. The sight of 888,246 ceramic poppies flowing out from the Tower and filling the moat was incredibly moving.

The artwork, by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, was created to commemorate the outbreak of World War One – the war to end all wars. Each ceramic poppy, one for each British military casualty during the war, was hand crafted, hand painted and hand placed into position. The images, seen on TV and through the Internet and press, as the display grew was astonishing and incredibly moving.

When Sarah and I became aware that the poppies were available to buy, with all profits going to six UK based service charities, including the Royal British Legion, we immediately ordered one. Now, several months later, here ours is.
