Finished at last! The hall tree / seat / storage thing that I have been working on is now in situ. I think the reclaimed timber works well alongside the new, gloss plained wood and with the LED lights.

Day 65/365 (2018)
Whilst walking the mutts this evening, I spotted this newly placed plaque. I was intrigued by the use of a hashtag. It is the first time that I have seen one on a memorial.
Day 64/365 (2018)
I have been cleaning up and reviving some of the tools that I brought home from my father’s cellar. This is one of my grandfather’s scribes. Now that the rust has been cleaned away you can see where he carefully inscribed his name. I miss my grandfather every day and the sight of his name…
Day 63/365 (2018)
Brighouse canal today and the ducks seem perplexed by the ice that The Beast From The East has visited on us.
Day 62/365 (2018)
Visited Ma and Pa this afternoon. Dad mentioned he had some clamps in the cellar that I could have, so we took a trip down into the damp and dark. My dad had inherited the tools and assorted items from my late grandfathers workshop. So I spent a short while rooting through old biscuit tins…
Day 61/365 (2018)
The view of our orangery roof during the cold snap imposed by “The Beast from the East”.
Day 60/365 (2018)
These are the rather splendid hinges I’ve bought to fit onto the lid of the hall tree I have built. I hope to fit these tomorrow and partially assemble the base, seat and back. I may even be able to install the LED light tape.
Day 59/365 (2018)
The “Beast From The East” hit hard today. The Siberian wind and snow claimed a victim as, this morning, we discovered Baby, Elphie The Mini Schnauzer’s oldest and favourite toy, buried in the snow.
Day 58/365 (2018)
A few weeks ago I made a small blackboard for my workshop. Sarah very quickly added a chalk drawing of a flower. My rulers, straight edges and squares are pictured below the artwork.
Day 57/365 (2018)
The timber I spent yesterday afternoon carefully cutting has been assembled and our hall tree is taking shape. This is the base and seat top. The top will be oiled in Medium Georgian Oak Danish Oil as will the (yet to be sourced and sized) palettes for the main parts of the sides. The framework…
Day 56/365 (2018)
This is the hall seat/storage unit I built for Bethany and Liam. It was quite a quick project although I did have a few issues with the walls not being plum and causing some difficulties with accurately cutting the pieces.
Day 55/365 (2018)
My next DIY project is a hall tree for ourselves. I am using it as an excuse to incorporate LED light tape into its design. I have wanted to experiment with LED tape for a little while now and this is an ideal opportunity.
Day 54/365 (2018)
The booklet outlining all of the Arvon creative writing courses and retreats arrived today.
Day 53/365 (2018)
A bargain found in a local charity (thrift) shop today. Ten quid for an almost new denim jacket. And it is fleece lined! Perfect for my (yet to be booked) ranch holiday in America. Well, now I have the jacket, I HAVE to book the trip. Don’t I?
